Well hello darlings!
This is almost a week late but I am finally getting around to typing up my review for The Upside to Being Single by Emma Hart. Of course the day after release (in typical fashion, I binged it in one day) I came down with a head cold and have not done anything but work and sleep the last few days. Adulting is hard when you're sick y'all!
After two back to back gender bent novels, Miss Fix-It and Miss Mechanic, Emma went back to her flirty roots for this novel. If you have read any of her books you know that Emma thrives on sarcasm, witty remarks, and hot alpha males and this novel definitely did not disappoint! If you want a quick and flirty romance novel then I would definitely give this one a shot. It was not as long as some of her novels but definitely packed in all the best components of her writing. While it is technically a standalone, this book opens us up for Emma's newest book series (first book The Hook Up Experience coming soon!).
While Mellie was not her most outspoken female character to date, she did not lack in the sass department and it was refreshing seeing a twenty-something that knew what she wanted to do with her life while still maintaining that adorable hotmessedness. And Jake? Oh man... Let's just say if Mellie was not picking up what he was putting down he would be in some serious trouble for sexual harassment! He can come to my work and harass me anytime though... Overall, this was a quick and light read and I loved the plot, the dialogue, and the characters. It went way quicker then I would have liked, but since characters from this book premiere in the books being written/released soon I have hope that we haven't seen the last of Mellie and Jake. If I hadn't read this book a week ago I would have done a more in-depth review. As it is, I started reading my next for review and only vaguely remember specific plot points. I will definitely be rereading this book at some point though!
